Oatmeal Baths for Eczema

After I wrote a whole series on getting rid of eczema, it made an ugly return to our home in the last few months. Just like any battle, you win some and you lose some. But we are experimenting with a new, natural treatment that seems to be very working.

Allergic dermatitis and eczema can be treated with a simple oatmeal bath recipe that can be made at home.

Oatmeal’s health benefits in a diet are well known. Incredibly, oatmeal is just as good for your skin as it is as a hearty breakfast. With this simple home remedy that can easily made for just pennies, allergic dermatitis and eczema flare-ups can be quickly treated with the simple act of taking a bath...

thanks for posting this recipe! I bought one of the commercial ones, 5 in a pack for an insane amount of money ($8 Canadian!) When I checked the ingredients at home, it was basically just oatmeal and mineral oil... MUCH cheaper to make your own! The oatmeal has helped tons with DD's skin, and since she seems to have an itchy head too, we use just the oatmeal bath, no shampoo, no soap, and even her curls seem more lively.. lol!

Just wanted to let you know about something you should check in to. Our son was born with a partial biotinadase deficiency 6 months ago. They found it in his newborn screening. This is a fairly new part of the screening, but symptoms include eczema. It can be treated with taking a biotin vitamin everyday. Your son may or may not have it, but I would check on it. Other problems can arise (that are very severe and sometimes fatal) but are completely preventable if you find out soon enough.

I have used Epsoom's salts in my son's bath. It has helped tremendously. I had heard about using this to treat eczema on the radio. They said that it helps to reduce the inflammation and reduce or take away the pain. It also helps to soften the skin and also replace or help with magensium deficiencies which can contribute to eczema.

My son has severe eczema and after doing a food allergy test we found out he's allergic to oatmeal. The allergist pointed us to cottonseed oil which has been such a help since he can't get relief from the oatmeal baths anymore. If oatmeal isn't an option, consider the cottonseed oil!
