Thank Goodness Halloween is Over!

I was dreading Halloween this year. It used to be so much fun as a kid, but with Tyler's peanut allergy, I worried he would feel left out. On Thursday, an ER doctor with a blog sent me a link to his blog where he referenced my blog. (Cool!) In the article, the ER doctor talked about how busy the ER can be on Halloween due to peanut allergy. I was thankful we would not be in that number. Or would we?

Believe it or not, Tyler and I ushered in Halloween sitting in the ER. Thankfully, it had nothing to do with his peanut allergy. Instead, it was a bad ear infection. He had an ear drum rupture last summer so when he was crying that his ear hurt, I called his doctor. She sent me to the ER. We were trying to avoid another rupture. It had not ruptured by the time we saw the doctor at 1 a.m. Halloween morning. That afternoon, however, it did rupture. Poor guy!

The good news is we were reaction-free on Halloween! Yeah! I hope all of my readers can say the same. Now, onto Thanksgiving and Christmas where nuts are everywhere. And, no, I'm not talking about relatives!

I also am SO glad Halloween is over. I took my PA son, 2, to my dad and stepmom's house for a halloween treat bag. In it was a reese's PB cup. You would think people who raised a PA daughter (my sister) would have enough sense not to put this in his bag. I am so sad at the total disregard for his well-being. I have a neighbor who made him a special treat bag and made sure it was free of nuts. I guess you are right, it is the family members where you have the most problems. I was already nervous as my son had already had a reaction earlier that day to somthing (we think it was penicillin - I will find out next week). Thanks for letting me vent...

I am also relieved that Halloween is over. We try to let our daughter participate as much as possible. I'm just thrilled they don't celebrate it at her school. Her teacher even sent a note home suggesting stickers or pencils if people really wanted to send a treat for the children.

We made it through! We actually stayed home again this year and handed out safe candy like we usually do. The boys did get to carve out pumpkins (well, they drew what they wanted with a pen and I cut it out). Boy was that amusing! Then we roasted the pumpkin seeds. I did find a reeces peanut butter cup wrapper in my yard the next morning..grr! K
