Bakery items are never safe for a child with a peanut allergy. As most of you know, I took a cake decorating class last month so that I could give both of my children a safe cake that rivals those they might get if we didn't have a peanut allergy in our house.
My youngest child, Dylan, turned two last week. He is absolutely crazy about Thomas the Tank Engine. I know if he were old enough to tell me, that is the cake he would request. We do not believe Dylan has a peanut allergy (he will be tested soon) but I wanted to have a cake that Tyler could enjoy with him. Thus began my journey for the perfect Thomas cake.
Here is my "labor of love" from other angles.
In the end, I was happy with my cake. He was safe for anyone with a nut allergy to eat. (I have a niece and nephew with tree nut allergies that attended the birthday party, too).

Very cute...
Good Job Mama! It is perfect!!
Great job Robin! I've done a 3-D Thomas, Percy and Mighty Mac, so I know how challenging it was!

Great cake! I have a son with a severe peanut allergy, so I make his cakes. I think I need to step up my skills!
You are a great mom! Things we do to keep the kids safe! I too, just baked a Thomas cake this summer - and of course, peanut free!
You are such a great mom, Robyn! Have I told you that our mom made all of our cakes? Not because of allergies, but because of frugality. She has NEVER bought a cake EVER. She's my hero, in so many ways.
Your kids will say the same about you too!
cute Thomas cake. I am making one for my son next month. However, since we are going to be at Disney World the week before, I will just make a regular sheet cake. I bought the Thomas and Friends kit from the bakery and I will put those in and try to make icing tracks.
