This Week In Peanut Allergy News...

I am constantly reading the Internet chat on the subject of peanut allergy. Some of it is good and some of it not good at all. Instead of keeping this information to myself, I thought I would make a weekly ritual of posting interesting things people are saying.

Dr. Wesley Burks (a.k.a. as "my hero") is heading up research for a treatment for PA that I've written about before. Here is an article on the same treatment with eggs (it uses the same principles as the peanut desensitization) and a slight mention of his study using these principles for peanuts (scroll to the bottom for that). This can be found at Health Article.

If you are looking for organic, peanut-free snacks, Jennifer has the scoop over at Food Allergy.

Someone who doesn't have a PA kid but sympathizes with those of who send our PA kids to school everyday at Missing Chapters.

Apparently peanut bans have become a political issue with some. The Political Republican claims that John McCain will save our country from these "ridiculous bans" that are ruining the country and America's children. Instead of being angry, I'm just thankful this person doesn't have to live with the fear all of our families do each day.

Wow...wow I can't believe the Republican...How can people who are pro-life be against a Nut-free school when the result with contact is fatal. We need more education and more tolerance - I so know if it was someone else's child I would not be complaining. I would do whatever it took to protect them. It does take a village to raise a child...at least safely. Thanks for a fabulous blog!

Thanks for the link-I went to the Republican's page and left a comment. They are comparing the ban on God to the ban on peanuts. Good grief. k

I did too, left a comment, and I encourage all readers here do too, but please, a nice and polite one. Our goal is to educate people, not to stir up a fight.

Well said. Leave polite comments. Mr Political Rebublican is listening! Go check it out...

I don't see anything in that article that says McCain will put an end to peanut bans. Or anything that says Democrats have or will put peanut bans in place.

I just wanted to mention that the author of that article has put a disclaimer in the comments. I am posting it here:

Nowhere has there even been an implication that either John McCain or Sarah Palin is against the peanut butter ban in public schools.

I have scoured the internet for any articles that elude [sic] to it and they do not exist. I would not, however, put it past some liberal blogger to make up the story and then have the mainstream Liberal media (ABC, CBS, NBC) pick it up and publish it as fact.

I regret writing this article in the first place because, due to the attention it has received (not to mention the things you all have taught me), I can just see it coming now …
